NEW NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Sport - Starts September
This is our new course that we began running in 2019. This course is a perfect pre cursor to those wanting to join our Level 3 course but who don’t quite make our standard level 3 entry requirements. This course is still perfect for anyone that has an interest in sport and may want to develop a career as a watersports instructor or someone who has a passion for Outdoor Adventure and being outside. With a strong practical focus, this course offers you the opportunity to develop for a year and then progress on to Level 3.
NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Sport (Outdoors). This course is equivalent to GCSE level study.
1 Year: Diploma
Four GCSEs at grade 3 and above with an interest and/or experience of watersports and outdoor adventure. You will need to be 16 years of age by 31st August and ready to start in September. If you have not achieved a grade 4 in English or Maths, you will be required to resit these exams alongside the course.
This course is a highly practical course with a focus participating and leading Outdoor activities.
The course is taught through both classroom based lessons and practical sessions. Each week you will have a day and a half in the classroom learning all the elements of the course. During this time, you will learn through lectures, workshops, discussions and tutorials and where possible practical exploration. All lessons are fully supported by resources, PowerPoints and worksheets which are all available on our Virtual Learning Environment to help you really achieve your best.
The remaining two days each week of the programme are practical, with one day compulsory and one day the optional instructor training. The compulsory days of the course focus on Outdoor Adventurous Activities covering Land-based, Water-based and Alternative Activities. You will take park in sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, powerboating and stand up paddle boarding. On land, you will go on expeditions, walking, mountain biking, team building, initiative exercises, navigation, take part in orienteering and have the opportunity to go climbing. For Alternative activities, you will have the opportunity to go surfing, coasteering, take part in archery, bush craft, high ropes or go skiing / snowboarding.
As this is a sports course, you’ll also get to play sport. As part of the programme we play a range of sports such as dodgeball, handball, rounders, beach cricket, tag rugby, football and ultimate frisbee. On all these sports your ability is not important, it’s more about taking part and having fun rather than being the next Ronaldo!
This course is continually assessed throughout and is assessed by coursework. For each unit you study you will complete assignments submitted to your teachers. Don’t worry, you’ll get all the information you need to help you understand and achieve your best.
You can continue with your studies at Rockley and progress on to our BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport and Outdoor Activities.
